    WWF is the world's largest conservation organization, founded in 1961. We’re active in over 100 countries and have over 7000 employees. The WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme is responsible for leading and to a significant extent implementing WWF’s efforts to preserve, restore and sustainably manage the natural values of the Danube-Carpathian ecoregion, which we also call the Green Heart of Europe. With a team of 160 highly specialised professionals, we are working across political borders through an ecoregional approach based on model projects, influencing policy, networking, capacity building, communication and crisis response.
     
    We’re currently looking for a Regional Environmental Economics Coordinator to contribute to WWF´s objectives in Central and Eastern Europe by making the business case of conservation and supporting conservation team members in designing and implementing initiatives in the field of sustainable livelihoods creation and innovative financing. The role represents WWF DCP on related issues both within the global WWF network and externally, in particular with the aim of developing partnerships.
     
    Key Responsibilities of the jobholder will include:
    Strategy and work plan development
    • Facilitate and guide the development of projects and strategies of WWF related to sustainable livelihoods creation, green business models, and innovative financing and contribute to policy documents of other conservation staff, where relevant
    • Monitor and analyse drivers of and trends in sustainable development and propose ways of how they can be used to WWF-DCP´s conservation objectives. Guide the development of innovative approaches in the field of greening and sustainable development approaches within WWF DCP
    • Actively support the integration of socio-economic aspects into conservation programmes and initiatives
    • Fundraising and project development
    • Drive identification and development of multi-country, complex proposals related to innovative financing and green business creation to donors, working and collaborating with essential regional partners, and support national level fundraising.
    • Help WWF-DCP project teams in achieving higher conservation impact by integrating effectively elements of sustainable livelihoods, green business approaches and innovative financing into project design
    • Explore and maintain relations with selected key donors and private sector partners (such as EU funding programmes, trusts and foundations, banks, insurance companies, corporate/private donors
    Project management and implementation
    • Support with economic expertise implementation of multi-country projects with Green Economy components or objectives
    • Identify the need for external expertise in the field of economics and draft respective TOR
    • Advocacy, partnership development and networking
    • Represent the organization in relevant international forums such as conferences, symposiums, and government and community meetings to communicate and promote our work
    • Support development and implementation of advocacy strategies, including engagement with governmental and private sector institutions primarily at international level
    • Support partnership development with other international Civil Society Organisations and private investors
    • Represent WWF interests towards international bodies such as the European Commission
    • Represent WWF DCP in WWF forums and help with positioning of WWF DCP within the WWF network on issues related to sustainable livelihoods, green business models and financing
    • Represent WWF DCP in steering groups of regional projects, when appropriate
    • Liaise with scientists and scientific institutions and networks for knowledge transfer and partnership development
    Staff development and knowledge management
    • Support WWF-DCP´s capacity building efforts on Green Economy issues by coaching and mentoring colleagues and contributing to the design of relevant training programmes and events
    • Facilitate the exchange of knowledge regarding environmental economics both within WWF-DCP and with other WWF offices and the external expert and practitioners community
    • Analyse trends and opportunities in the field of environmental economics and innovation relevant for WWF’s mission and work and relay this information to relevant team members
    Communications
    • Work in close coordination with the WWF-DCP regional communication team as well as across the WWF network to communicate issues and achievements in the field of his/her expertise to defined target audiences such as WWF supporters, donors or the public
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of advocacy and information campaigns.
     
    What we look for?
    • University degree in Economics or related field; a degree in Environmental Economics would be an asset
    • Knowledge and understanding of economic instruments for the protection, restoration and maintenance of ecosystems and their services
    • Understanding of conservation, economics and natural resource management issues in the Danube-Carpathian Region
    • At least 5 years relevant work experience as an economist
    • Team-player
    • Ability to engage diverse stakeholders such as government officials or the scientific community
    • Project proposal writing skills
    • Experience with community development work and/or policy advocacy with focus on environmental economics
    • Ambition, energy and drive, with a commitment to making a difference
    • Strategic thinking
    • Ability to work in an international environment and within a multi-cultural team
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English and one other language (Bulgarian, Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak or Ukrainian)
    • Drive to initiate change
    • Ability to collect, analyze and transmit information in an effective manner
    • Proficiency in MS Office
