COUNSELLOR FOR TRANSPORT, PORT DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL MATTERS at the DANUBE COMMISSION (Budapest)

The Danube Commission (DC), an international organisation based in Budapest, announces that the position of "Counsellor for transport, exploitation, port development and environmental matters" will become vacant on 1 July 2027. The selection process will take place between May and December 2026.

Core responsibilities:

-     Works under the direction of the Chief Engineer

-     Deals with matters relating to passenger and freight transport; ports and port operations, the management of water resources in accordance with nautical conditions

-     Prepares and implements the meetings of the expert group on ports and port operations, as well as of the expert group on ship-generated waste

-     Prepares documents on organising the waste collection (e.g., containing oil, wastewater, house waste) coming from vessels operating on the Danube

-     Participates in the development and implementation of projects contributing to the development of passenger and cargo transportation, as well as regional and subregional economic cooperation in relation to Danube navigation

-     Actively participates in the activities of Priority Area 1a of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region

-     Deals with topics related to the implementation of the "Joint Statement on Guidelines for the Development of Navigation and Environmental Protection in the Danube River Basin"  

Core requirements:

-     University degree (Master's or Doctorate), preferably in transport economics, or transportation technology

-     Extensive work experience in the field of inland waterway transportation

−     Sound technical knowledge in the use of new vessel technologies and the application of the methods for navigation on the Danube and other major waterways

−     Editorial skills, precise written and verbal communication

−     Comprehensive IT skills, especially in Microsoft Office applications

−     Good command of written and spoken English and knowledge of one of the official languages of the Danube Commission is obligatory

−     High degree of teamwork, initiative, and motivation

-       The term of office runs from 1 July 2027 to 30 June 2031 and may be extended for an additional four years
